Media Studies and Road Safety. Students in Media Studies can analyse road safety campaigns in the media, along with articles in the media about key issues. A recent example would be seat belts in buses, in which the media has been pushing the issue and virtually running the agenda. There can be good discussions about the emotive side of the debate, as opposed to the "logical/statistical" approach (i.e. that the money could be better spent on other safety measures, given that nobody has been killed in a school bus!) Our Year 10 Media students produce a short Road Safety commercial as one of their practical tasks. Year 10 and 11 Media students also film major events, such as the Mock Crash. They then go on to edit and produce a final product.
