| Health and Road Safety. Much of this work can also be covered in a Pastoral Care context, but clearly there are many issues that need to be discussed in one forum or other: - Alcohol - what is a standard drink; how much is too much; how long does it remain in your body; how alcohol gives you a false sense of confidence in your ability, etc. Penalties and consequences The "Fatal Vision" goggles, which simulate drunkenness are useful here, particularly if the teacher sets up an obstacle course on the oval, or perhaps a game of bowls? (Footnote: - I have seen different versions of these glasses more like spectacles than goggles, and I think it may be worth shopping around for a better price - perhaps even having them posted from overseas - try http://www.healthedco.com who have spectacle-style glasses for $129 US) Drugs - how they affect your driving alone and in combination with alcohol; how they alter your perception; new tests for drug-drivers, etc. Penalties and consequences Well-being - healthy eating; staying alert when you drive; positive attitude to life; recognising the danger signs Endurance - driving is a surprisingly tiring activity - how fit are you for the task? Mental Health - self-confidence, self-esteem, dealing with grief Resources which can be used here are covered under Pastoral Care, or see the Resources page. |
