The Motor Accident Commission Grant
Birdwood High is one of the
most committed Road Safety educators in the state, due to the high
numbers of past and present students involved in road trauma. For a
number of years we have been experimenting with different initiatives
and programmes.
In 2005, Birdwood High
School was successful in applying for a grant
from the Motor Accident Commission. The purpose of the grant was to
assist in the development of school-based Road Safety resources, with
a view to making our experiences available to other schools who wish to
teach Road Safety. The information on this site is the result.
We were particularly keen to develop Road Safety Education on several fronts: -
As a stand-alone course for Stage 1 (Year 11)
As a focus for Year Level/Pastoral Care programmes
As a theme to be embedded across the curriculum in a range of subject areas
As a major event - the Mock Crash
As a number of "special offers", such as the Roadsafe Driver-Awareness Course and "Physics in Motion".
By providing money for
teacher release time, resources, printing costs and travel expenses for
students, the Motor Accident Commission has enabled us to progress much
more quickly than would otherwise have been possible. For this, we
thank them most sincerely! |
