External School Review

The purpose of external school review is to support schools to raise student achievement and sustain high performance.  The process is transparent and contributes to the realisation of the department’s strategic plan to build a high performing system, provide quality assurance, and build confidence in our school.

The external school review framework has been developed with reference to the department’s policies and national and international school effectiveness and school improvement models.  The framework draws heavily on evidence-based research and focuses on the use of practices proven to impact significantly on the achievement of outcomes for all students at the classroom and school level.

The external school review process is intended to strengthen the school’s focus on learning. The process provides an external perspective to verify or challenge internal self-review findings, the rigour of improvement practices or the capacity to achieve or sustain improvement over time.

In 2017 Birdwood High School engaged in the one year On Track Evaluation, a re-review from 2016 to ensure the school placed a focus on student learning, engagement and achievement. I am pleased to announce Birdwood High School had evidenced significant improvements in all domains and now placed on a four-year cycle to evaluate school performance and effectiveness.
