Reconciliation Week

February 22, 2018

To celebrate Reconciliation Week 2018, Birdwood High School has invited Uncle Tamaroo to share with students the importance of day, followed by clapping sticks and Welcome to Country. A smoking ceremony, didgeridoo playing by our Indigenous students will occur prior to the Principal’s leadership team providing toasties and a sausage sizzle to commence our day.
Reconciliation Week begins on the 27 May with the 51st celebration of the National Referendum in 1967. It concludes on June 3, the day the Supreme Court of Australia brought down its Mabo Decision to recognise for the rst time some form of ‘native title’ to land held by the original inhabitants before European colonisation.
